Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Buyer to join our Shared Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing pharmaceuticals, controlled substances, and related supplies, as well as overseeing all activities related to procurement, receipt, storage, and return of all pharmaceuticals and supplies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage all activities related to procurement, receipt, storage, and return of all pharmaceuticals in accordance with policy and state and federal law.
  • Review and reorder pharmacy stock and supplies, and update inventory to maintain correct par levels to keep adequate stock levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies.
  • Coordinate inventory monthly for expired pharmaceuticals, following proper stock rotation procedures, and seek reimbursement from the manufacturer involved.
  • Keep accurate records of all purchase orders placed, and ensure purchasing records are consistent with the Summary Bill notification.
  • Adhere to all purchasing contracts using these whenever possible to maintain contract compliance.
  • Monitor budgeted pharmaceutical cost versus revenue, and monitor and maintain an acceptable turnover rate.
  • Explain in writing why purchases are over budget.
  • Review all recalls immediately upon receipt, pull recalled medications, and return to appropriate manufacturer/wholesaler for reimbursement.
  • Maintain required documentation of pharmacy's response to recall.
  • Respond in a timely manner of findings from recall.
  • Convey all back-order information to the department in a timely manner.
  • Ensure monthly interdepartmental billing for items sent to other practices sent to accounting for processing.
  • Review orders daily for maintenance update (340B facilities) and perform proper maintenance for software compliance in ordering.
  • Coordinate with appropriate departments to implement EMR charge codes and mnemonics as appropriate.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Certified Pharmacy Technician desired.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration or comparable college degree preferred.
  • Prior hospital pharmacy technician experience required.
  • Certification of graduation from a pharmacy technician training program and/or 2 years hospital pharmacy experience in purchasing required.
  • Prefer 3 years of acute care pharmacy purchasing experience.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and departmental equipment, including but not limited to Connect SMO, electronic medical record, ConnectRx (if applicable) and a DSCSA approved vendor's software required.
