Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Construction Inspector to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our construction program, you will be responsible for monitoring and inspecting roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects to ensure compliance with plans and contract documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular site visits to inspect construction progress and identify potential issues
  • Review and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance
  • Monitor and enforce contractor compliance with safety, environmental, and EEO/DB guidelines and regulations
  • Prepare thorough and accurate project documentation, including reports and records
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
Requirements
  • Experience with construction methods, materials, equipment, standards, specifications, and terminology
  • Knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments to construction plans
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze roadway, structure, and bridge plans, construction contracts, and other project management documents
  • Ability to prepare reports, enter data, update, and maintain files
  • Ability to work independently and oversee the work of others
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Skill in the use of engineering and testing equipment and computer software applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a broad range of road and bridge construction inspection activities with a DOT or a DOT consultant inspection firm
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and Site Manager or PlanGrid
  • Experience overseeing the work of others
  • Possession of current certifications and completion of fall protection and confined space training
Working Conditions

This position requires physically demanding work in field conditions. Frequent climbing, crawling, stooping, lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights, in confined spaces, and traversing embankments is required.
