We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Inspector to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a Construction Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of our roadway and bridge construction projects.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and inspect roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects to ensure compliance with plans and contract documents.
- Conduct regular site visits to assess project progress and identify potential issues.
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation to support project decisions and recommendations.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to resolve issues and ensure project completion.
- Conduct materials testing to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Ensure work zones and safety requirements are met, and environmental permit requirements are adhered to.
- Document utility work accurately through daily reports.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including VDOT personnel, contractors, and the general public.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in construction, civil engineering, or project management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to interpret plans and specifications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and project management tools.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements.
- Experience in highway and bridge construction inspection with a DOT or consultant inspection firm.
- Knowledge of roadway, structure, and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, and terminology.
- Knowledge of state and federal safety, environmental, and equal employment opportunity guidelines and regulations.
- Ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine minor adjustments to construction plans.
- Proficient in AWP or other project management software.
This position requires the ability to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors in all weather conditions. The incumbent must be able to stand for long periods, work at heights, and lift 50 pounds. A valid driver's license is required at time of hire.
