Position Overview:

In response to our ongoing expansion, TRC Field Services (FSV) is looking for experienced Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineers to enhance our Client Teams throughout the Northeast Region. This role involves significant travel, with fieldwork expected 75% of the time.

With a dedicated team of over 200 skilled utility and industrial commissioning engineers and testing technicians, TRC provides comprehensive, cost-effective solutions to our Electric Utility Clients while offering exceptional training programs and mentorship opportunities, along with a robust benefits package.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Testing Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, coordinating, executing, and documenting all commissioning activities, including pre-commissioning, construction, testing, energization, and project closure for various utility substation protection, control, and power circuits, in alignment with TRC's and Client's specifications, budgets, and timelines.
  • Reviewing wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents prior to project initiation and outages.
  • Conducting troubleshooting and problem analysis related to protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, addressing issues such as application errors, drawing discrepancies, wiring mistakes, settings errors, equipment malfunctions, and questionable test results.
  • Participating in project meetings, including kickoff, planning, progress, and lessons learned sessions.
  • Preparing detailed reports and documentation on a daily, weekly, and project completion basis, covering project progress, issues, recommendations, test results, and analyses.
  • Assisting in the development of project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization strategies, and other relevant documentation.
  • Identifying risks and mitigation strategies for utility systems and equipment, creating a Site Risk Assessment to document high-risk construction and commissioning activities, and formalizing processes for circuit isolation and restoration to ensure safety.
  • Ensuring all necessary tests and commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system according to planning and project documents, with all test results properly recorded, filed, and distributed.
  • Developing and reviewing detailed test reports for various types of electrical equipment.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited institution, along with 10+ years of relevant experience in testing and commissioning services (Electric Utility experience is preferred, but we are willing to train candidates with experience in commissioning complex commercial or industrial equipment, including protective relays or other Power Systems Field Engineers with relay knowledge).
  • The ability to read and comprehend construction and manufacturer’s drawings and specifications, as well as schematic diagrams.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication, and a basic understanding of AC and DC schematics, wiring, and interconnection diagrams.
  • Prior experience with medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment, with the ability to perform basic apparatus testing and interpret results under supervision.
  • Solid knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits, with the ability to conduct commissioning activities and interpret results with guidance.
  • Experience with Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, and Enoserv RTS is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Goose Messaging is a plus.
  • Eligibility to work in the US, along with a valid driver's license in good standing.
  • Willingness to travel out of town for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends, overtime, holidays, and night shifts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and negotiate with clients and team members.

Compensation: In accordance with local regulations, the salary range for this position will vary based on experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employees may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program, contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators.
