Job Description

Position Title: Journeyman Electrician

Location: North Slope, Alaska

Company Overview: CONAM Construction is a comprehensive general contracting firm based in Anchorage, Alaska, specializing in Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Maintenance Services for the Oil & Gas and Mining sectors. We are currently seeking skilled professionals for our extensive Pikka Facilities Installation project on the North Slope.

Overview: As a Journeyman Electrician within the oil and gas sector on a North Slope initiative, you will play a crucial role in the installation, upkeep, and repair of electrical systems and apparatus, ensuring compliance with NPFA 70E standards and regulations. Your contributions will be vital in maintaining the safe and efficient functionality of electrical systems throughout the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Install, diagnose, and repair electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and control systems, adhering strictly to NFPA 70 (NEC) and NPFA 70E regulations.
  2. Perform preventive maintenance to improve the reliability and lifespan of electrical equipment, ensuring all tasks align with safety protocols.
  3. Interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and blueprints to determine installation procedures, consistently following NPFA 70 standards.
  4. Work collaboratively with other trades and project stakeholders to synchronize electrical work with project timelines and ensure integration with overall project goals.
  5. Maintain rigorous safety protocols and regulations to ensure a secure working environment for yourself and your colleagues, consistently demonstrating commitment to NPFA 70E safety standards.
  6. Keep precise records of all work completed, including detailed maintenance logs and equipment documentation, in accordance with NPFA 70 requirements.
  7. Exhibit unwavering commitment to NPFA 70 standards in all operational activities.

Required Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
  2. Journeyman Electrician certification from the State of Alaska, with a solid understanding of NPFA 70 standards.
  3. A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician in the oil and gas sector, preferably in Arctic or cold climate settings, focusing on NPFA 70 compliance.
  4. Expertise in electrical systems installation, troubleshooting, and repair, ensuring strict adherence to NPFA 70 regulations.
  5. Thorough knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and standards, including NEC and NFPA, with a specific focus on NPFA 70E safety requirements.
  6. Ability to effectively read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and blueprints, ensuring NPFA 70 guidelines are rigorously followed in all installations and repairs.
  7. Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with other team members, emphasizing NFPA 70 and NPFA 70E compliance in all project-related communications.
  8. Physical capability to work in extreme weather conditions and lift heavy equipment/materials as necessary, while consistently prioritizing adherence to NPFA 70E safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry Certification, along with specialized training in NPFA 70E standards and practices.
  2. Hazardous Locations (HAZLOC) certification, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of electrical safety in potentially hazardous environments.
  3. Extensive experience with electrical systems in hazardous settings, such as Class I, Division 1 areas, ensuring full compliance with NPFA 70 standards.
  4. Familiarity with specialized equipment used in Arctic construction projects, including winterized electrical systems designed to meet NPFA 70E requirements.
  5. Additional training or certifications related to electrical safety, first aid, or environmental awareness, demonstrating a commitment to NPFA 70E compliance in all activities.

Work Environment:

  • This position is based on the North Slope of Alaska, involving exposure to extreme weather conditions, remote work sites, and potentially hazardous environments.
  • May require working in confined spaces, at heights, and with heavy machinery.
  • This role may involve a rotational schedule (e.g., two weeks on, two weeks off) and/or extended shifts to meet project requirements and weather conditions on the North Slope.
  • Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and Fit-For-Duty exam.
