Work Schedule: M-F 7:00am-5pm with availability for after-hours and weekend support as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field, with 0-5 years of relevant experience.
  • If no degree, a minimum of 10+ years of pertinent experience in the IGT repair sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial gas turbines and/or steam turbines.
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, mechanical properties, and materials processing techniques.
  • Experience with optical, digital, and scanning electron microscopy techniques.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Physical capabilities as per Engineering / Operations - Salaried Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and stand for extended periods (8-12 hours) as required.
  • Must successfully complete background checks and drug screenings.
GENERAL OPERATIONAL SUPPORT AREAS
The Metallurgical Specialist will provide support to the Engineering and Operations Departments through the Materials Laboratory. Additional departmental tasks may be assigned as necessary.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist Engineering and Operations with technical insights related to material analysis.
  • Support daily operations of the Materials Lab, including:
    • Preparation of metallurgical specimens, including sectioning, mounting, and polishing.
    • Conduct mechanical testing, such as hardness, tensile, and stress rupture tests.
    • Perform microscopy on metallurgical samples using various microscopy techniques.
    • Conduct metallurgical assessments of hardware, components, weld qualifications, and other items as required.
  • Contribute to the growth and enhancement of the Materials Lab:
    • Development of new or improved processes and procedures.
    • Creation of standardized reporting formats for production jobs requiring metallurgical samples.
    • Assist in identifying new tools and equipment to enhance the Materials Lab.
  • Exhibit professionalism in job duties and work ethic, collaborating with industry experts.
  • Adhere to and comply with the QHSE management system.
  • Continuously evaluate job responsibilities and seek ways to enhance productivity through system or tool implementation.
  • Engage with customers and colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Prepare documentation packages and reports as required or assigned.
  • Generate work scopes as directed by supervisors.
  • Communicate with suppliers and manage purchase orders as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Operations to uphold a quality system that aligns with ISO quality and environmental standards.
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Materials Lab Supervisor or Director of Engineering.
SPECIFIC TASKS
  • Provide technical support and solutions for the Materials Lab.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the DTS Welder Qualification and Weld Qualification procedures, ensuring the operations team remains fully qualified.
  • Support DTS coating system qualifications and production run qualifications for all components processed internally or externally, ensuring consistent quality.
  • Conduct testing as directed by Engineering, utilizing mechanical, microstructural, and destructive testing methods.
  • Collaborate with the DTS Inspection Department to develop and qualify inspection test methods, including visual, penetrant, eddy current, ultrasonic, and other non-destructive testing methods.
  • Travel to sites as necessary to assist with material and metallurgical evaluations.
  • Ensure that components procured by the DTS team meet the required specifications and quality standards through necessary sampling and testing.
  • Identify and qualify new vendors to enhance the DTS supply chain, focusing on improved quality, lead times, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Continuously review and assess engineering roles to identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements.
  • Work with the Operations and Quality teams to maintain ISO compliance across all workshop activities.
