Role Overview:

The Welding Engineer will serve as a key technical resource, responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing welding processes to enhance the operations at the Theodore facility. This role requires close collaboration with design engineering, quality assurance, drafting, and production management to effectively address production challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee WPS/PQR/WPQR for various materials including aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel, ensuring compliance with ASME IX, EN 9606-1,2, and AWS D1.1 standards using processes such as GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, and SMAW.
  • Maintain WPQ's and continuity logs for various welding processes in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Identify and troubleshoot production issues related to design, quality control, and production supervision.
  • Assess ongoing needs for testing, training, and process implementation to support shop floor activities.
  • Justify and generate requests for the acquisition of new or replacement welding and fabrication equipment to improve processes and increase capacity.
  • Provide comprehensive reports on shop floor activities, training needs, and quality-related issues, highlighting successful project implementations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Material Sciences.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Welding Engineer in production or construction environments.
  • Understanding of statistical control fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, and SMAW welding processes.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and welding software such as C-Spec.
  • Demonstrated management skills or leadership training.
  • Basic knowledge of NDE techniques including RT, UT, LPT, MPT, and VT.

Work Environment:

The position involves frequent sitting and walking, with occasional standing, bending, and twisting. It requires repetitive hand movements and the ability to work in both office and industrial manufacturing settings, with potential exposure to temperature variations and materials associated with welding.
