Position Overview:
Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist
Location: Not specified
Duration: 12 Months
Work Schedule:
Monday - Thursday, 5 am - 3:30 pm (10.5 hours with a 30-minute lunch). Occasional Fridays and weekend rotations may be required based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute clinical functions within the Registered Nurse scope of practice.
- Supervise clinic operations, ensuring adequate inventory levels of medications, supplies, and equipment are maintained, and confirm that standing orders for medications and immunizations are up-to-date.
- Perform administrative duties including appointment scheduling, communication support, and maintaining clinic records.
- Possess knowledge of workers' compensation and disability case management.
- Provide immediate care and assistance to employees reporting occupational accidents or injuries.
- Communicate accident and injury reports to management and relevant departments promptly.
- Collaborate with third-party administrators managing work-related injuries.
- Work with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to support risk reduction for employees experiencing work-related musculoskeletal symptoms.
- Assist the Medical Director and Physician Assistant as needed.
- Conduct initial assessments of employee injuries and ensure appropriate referrals are made.
- Refer employees with identifiable limitations or health risks to suitable resources.
- Respond to plant-wide emergencies and perform first responder duties.
- Activate emergency protocols when necessary.
- Conduct new hire drug testing, DOT pre-employment, and random drug testing.
- Under the direction of the Medical Doctor, assist with travel consultations and administer immunizations for employees.
- Conduct basic ergonomic assessments and provide results and referrals to Safety.
- Assist Safety in managing the Respiratory and Hearing Conservation Program.
- Provide health education and referrals to employees as needed.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements pertinent to employee health and safety, maintaining health records in accordance with HIPAA, OSHA, and company protocols.
- Update and ensure compliance with standing orders, policies, and procedures of the Medical Department.
- Provide case management and pertinent medical records to support other regional sites.
- Manage the proper disposal of medical biohazard waste.
- Support the DOT program by assisting in the recovery of requested employee documentation.
- Proactively collect metrics to drive continuous improvement and map effective processes.
- Engage in learning, implementing, and supporting new electronic medical record systems.
- Work independently on projects requiring advanced subject area knowledge and decision-making skills.
- Apply company policies and procedures to resolve various issues or problems of moderate scope.
- Exercise judgment within defined practices to determine appropriate actions.
- Build productive internal and external working relationships.
- Work under limited supervision, typically receiving general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
- Active in-state Registered Nurse license required.
- Current American Heart Association Health Professional CPR card is necessary.
- OR
- Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN) certification.
- Minimum of 4 years of nursing experience.
- Active in-state Registered Nurse license required.
- Current American Heart Association Health Professional CPR card is necessary.
