**Responsibilities**
The Charge Nurse for Preoperative and PACU services plays a pivotal role in supervising and guiding nursing staff while also providing care to a select group of patients. This position is crucial in upholding a high standard of patient care, mentoring fellow nurses, and serving as a vital educational resource.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and support the nursing team in the operating room, ensuring effective management and communication.
- Direct patient admissions, discharges, and the overall flow within the operating room, while assigning tasks to nursing and support staff.
- Adapt to dynamic situations, prioritizing tasks during emergencies to meet daily objectives.
- Guide the administration of care for new patients and those with specific needs, clarifying operating room protocols.
- Collaborate with nurses and patients to formulate individualized care plans.
- Design and implement training programs to enhance the skills of new nurses and staff.
**Administrative Duties**
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Charge Nurse will handle various administrative tasks, including:
- Creating work schedules and ensuring adequate supply levels.
- Communicating updates and changes in protocols to the nursing staff.
- In some instances, managing the budget for nursing operations.
**Nursing Duties**
While the role is primarily managerial, the Charge Nurse will also engage in direct patient care, which may vary based on the daily schedule. Responsibilities may include circulating within the surgical environment.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities:**
- Uphold the highest standards of clinical nursing care.
- Lead, manage, and supervise the nursing staff effectively.
- Provide patient-centered care that enhances the quality of life for residents.
- Conduct one-on-one supervision sessions and performance appraisals for nursing staff.
- Foster positive working relationships within the nursing and care teams, encouraging collaborative input for service improvements.
- Ensure comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care through detailed care plans.
- Maintain accurate records as mandated by regulatory bodies.
- Communicate any changes in practice to relevant personnel.
- Report any incidents or unsafe practices promptly.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
- Current nursing license in the relevant state.
- BLS certification for Healthcare Providers required.
- PALS/ACLS certification (can be obtained upon hiring).
