The Opportunity

We are seeking a full-time Electromyography Technician to join our Neurology team. This role will be based in both Dover and Portsmouth, with the ability to commute to either site. The operating hours for the two locations are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.

Responsibilities
  • Operate EMG equipment to test the electrical activity of muscle disease or denervation.
  • Confer with patients to obtain medical history information.
  • Explain procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
  • Prepare patients for EMG procedures: apply electrodes to proper positions of the body.
  • Compute and record graphic data in accordance with established procedures.
  • Caliber and clean equipment in accordance with standardized procedures.
  • Assist the Neurodiagnostic Physician with EMG studies as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the peripheral nervous system, diseases related to neurodiagnostic medicine, instrumentation, basic electronics, and electrical safety.
  • Obtain patients' history, vital signs, and records accurately in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Assist with patient exams, procedures, and collection of specimens as assigned.
  • Retrieve laboratory and radiology test results and instruct patients regarding medications and treatment per physicians' instructions.
  • Understand and interpret current immunization schedules, administer injections safely.
  • Stock supplies and prepare exam rooms and instruments for examinations, testing, or minor procedures.
  • Demonstrate positive patient-appropriate interpersonal skills with patients, physician staff, and other hospital/clinic staff members.
  • Respond to incoming calls if necessary.
  • Participate in staff development and educational activities.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Perform Autonomic testing.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Education through an Accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program or at least 6 months experience involving training in both practical applicants and theory directly related to Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS).
  • 1 year direct patient interaction required.
  • Supervised work experience in EMG lab at least for 2 months as EMG technician.
  • Certification from the AAMA, NCCT, or RMA required. Or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire date.
  • BLS certification required.
