The Opportunity

We are seeking a full-time Electromyography Technician (EMG Tech) to join our Neurology team. This role will be based in both Dover and Portsmouth, with the ability to reliably commute to either site. The operating hours for the two locations are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, with staggered schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Operate EMG equipment to test the electrical activity of muscle disease or denervation to determine the conduction of velocity and latency times of peripheral motor and sensory nerves.
  • Confer with patients to obtain medical history information and explain procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results.
  • Prepare patients for EMG procedures, apply electrodes to the proper position of the body, and compute and record graphic data in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist the Neurodiagnostic Physician with EMG studies as needed, prepare or manipulate the instrument, and record findings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the peripheral nervous system, diseases related to neurodiagnostic medicine, instrumentation, basic electronics, and electrical safety.
  • Obtain patient history, vital signs, and records accurately in the Electronic Medical Record, and assist with patient exams, procedures, and collection of specimens as assigned.
  • Retrieve laboratory and radiology test results, instruct patients regarding medications and treatment per physicians' instructions, and understand and interpret current immunization schedules.
  • Stock supplies, prepare exam rooms and instruments for examinations, testing, or minor procedures, and demonstrate positive patient-appropriate interpersonal skills with patients, physician staff, and other hospital/clinic staff members.
  • Respond to incoming calls, participate in staff development and educational activities, attend required meetings, and participate in committees as requested.
  • Perform Autonomic testing, including preparing patients for testing, explaining each autonomic test component, setting up the patient room with necessary equipment, performing the exam, and recording observations in real-time.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Education through an Accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program or at least 6 months of experience involving training in both practical applications and theory directly related to Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS).
  • 1 year of direct patient interaction required.
  • Supervised work experience in an EMG lab for at least 2 months as an EMG technician.
  • Certification from the AAMA, NCCT, or RMA required, or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire date.
  • BLS certification required.
