Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Tucson Medical Center. As a key member of our imaging department, you will be responsible for utilizing high-frequency sound waves and specialized equipment to produce images of the inner human body and/or fetus for the identification and diagnosis of abnormalities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain equipment and probes after each patient, adhering to safety and infection control policies.
  • Explain procedures, answer patient questions, and address concerns in a compassionate and professional manner.
  • Assist medical staff during special procedures, obtaining patient history and verifying prescriptions and diagnoses.
  • Maintain accurate records of examination data and other pertinent information.
  • Perform advanced tests with portable equipment in patients' rooms when necessary.
  • Operate specialized equipment to calibrate and record test results, preparing rooms and equipment for patients.
  • Assist in inventory control and ordering supplies, adhering to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, and values policies.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school providing a sonography program.
  • Six months to one year of diagnostic medical sonography experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
  • General Ultrasound Sonographers and OB Sonographers must obtain American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification within 18 months of hire date.
  • Vascular Sonographers must obtain ARDMS or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification within 18 months of hire date.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of sonography best practices and procedures.
  • Skill in performing ultrasound techniques and examinations, and evaluating scans.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, complete routine reports, and communicate effectively with patients and medical staff.
