JOB SUMMARY:The Senior Program Accountant is responsible for overseeing all financial operations related to medical billing processes. This role includes assisting with budget formulation, preparing billing documentation, pursuing collections for claims receivable, and accurately recording revenues and expenses in compliance with GAAP standards. The Senior Program Accountant will prepare monthly reconciliations, maintain roll forward schedules, and support audit preparations while collaborating across departments to ensure financial and compliance integrity in all medical billing activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage financial operations and administrative tasks associated with Medicaid functions.
    1. Act as the primary liaison for medical billing inquiries.
    2. Ensure timely and accurate reconciliations for medical billing, maintaining appropriate supporting documentation.
    3. Verify that all medical billings align with approved budgets and are submitted to the correct agencies.
    4. Monitor local government medical funding P.O. expenditures and identify needs for additional funding or budget adjustments.
    5. Prepare journal entries for the assigned financial portfolio.
    6. Review cash receipts to ensure proper application to each claim, including manual applications by the medical billing specialist team.
    7. Oversee accounts receivable functions for the assigned portfolio, ensuring all payments are correctly coded and applied.
    8. Conduct monthly account receivable reconciliations and address any discrepancies promptly.
    9. Ensure all agreements and amendments are properly scanned and electronically filed.
    10. Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and schedules.
  • Support the Finance department's overall objectives through financial and administrative functions.
  • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of program budgets.
  • Help program staff understand the statement of activities for their respective programs.
  • Respond to inquiries from program staff in a timely and professional manner.
  • Generate monthly financial variance reports for assigned portfolios.
  • Assist with the annual audit process.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on contracts and grants.
  • At least 1 year of experience in Commercial and Medicaid/Medicare billing.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles.
  • Familiarity with medical billing software, such as Credible, and automated financial systems like Great Plains.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
