The City of Topeka is seeking qualified professionals to serve as Mechanical Inspectors in its Development Services division. This position is responsible for inspecting residential and commercial construction to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances and regulations governing the mechanical code.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect residential and light commercial construction for compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Follow up on inspections and violations to secure compliance.
  • Investigate complaints, prepare related reports, letters, and violation notices, and follow through until compliance has been attained.
  • Work with individuals to resolve concerns, problems, and violations related to mechanical inspections.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Mechanical Journeyman certification is required.
  • Must be insurable within the standards set by the City of Topeka's insurance carrier and possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
  • Mechanical Inspector I must obtain mechanical inspector certification within 18 months of hire date.
  • The Mechanical Inspector II level must be certified as a mechanical inspector.
