About the Role

This is a full-time, 11-month position with an estimated annual salary of $39,840-$46,080 based on the hourly pay range of $19.00-$21.00 per hour.

The Social Learning Specialist (SLS) works as part of a school-based support services team to create a youth-friendly presence within the school, focusing on cooperative relationships and direct communication. The SLS provides a continuum of care, with specific areas including prevention education, alternative suspension services, and immediate crisis response. They also deliver best-practice and research-based services such as groups, workshops, and curricula, focusing on Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS). Additionally, the SLS provides access to resources from The Center for Youth.

Work hours may overlap with the school day, and special events or projects may take place in the early evenings or on weekends.

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Administer, coordinate, and oversee program operations
  • Collaborate with School Administrators to ensure services meet identified needs and conduct regular meetings
  • Attend School Support Service meetings
  • Deliver a restorative-based system
  • Create and manage data collection and program evaluation processes
  • Provide monthly reports to the Director of School Based Programs
  • Coordinate requests for Prevention Education services
  • Maintain accurate and timely records according to funder and agency requirements
  • Engage in outreach and information dissemination
  • Offer referral and referral readiness services
  • Provide immediate response and support
  • Deliver prevention education with fidelity, including asset-building groups, research-based curricula, and planned-duplication booster sessions
  • Promote asset development activities focused on risk reduction and protective factors
  • Offer alternatives to suspension services, including pre/post assessment and transitional support
  • Serve as an agency ambassador and liaison at Referral Team Meetings, Partner Meetings, Open Houses, Health Fairs, etc.
  • Knowledge of school policies and procedures
  • Conduct research and design services, including outcome and impact tracking
  • Record keeping, evaluation, and quality assurance
  • Develop and maintain resource files, lesson plans, and training aids
  • Participate in individual supervision and mandated meetings and trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Candidates must possess significant knowledge of child and adolescent development, including positive youth development, asset development, risk reduction, and protective factors. They should also have knowledge of crisis management and behavior management techniques, community resources, and client advocacy.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in a Human Service or related field and 1-3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination are required. A Master's Degree, advanced training, and/or certification in areas directly related to the skills required are preferred. A driver's license is also necessary.
