Job Title: Physical Education Instructional Assistant

Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Campus Principal

Pay Grade: Instructional Support Pay Plan

Department/School: Assigned Campus

District Primary Purpose: To assist and enhance La Joya ISD in executing a comprehensive curriculum and instructional program that fosters student success and achievement.

Department Primary Purpose: Support the physical education staff in daily operations related to the physical education program.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: High School Graduate or GED, with a minimum of 48 college hours. Educational aides must be certified according to standards set by the State Board for Educator Certification.

Knowledge/Skills: Effective communication abilities, capability to collaborate with students, sound decision-making skills, and the ability to establish positive working relationships with physical education teachers and campus staff.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist with the inventory, care, and maintenance of physical education equipment.
  • Supervise small group activities as directed by the physical education teacher.
  • Accompany students who are injured or unwell during physical education activities to the nurse's office.
  • Keep the physical education teacher informed of any special needs or issues concerning individual students.
  • Help maintain discipline among students.
  • Participate in professional development training programs to enhance job performance.
  • Provide orientation and support to substitute teachers.
  • Assist the physical education teacher in maintaining administrative records and necessary reports.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, including during lunch, bus, and playground duties.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) in English and Spanish. Maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting. Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to varying temperatures and dust.
