Job Title: Medical Laboratory Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at the American Red Cross. As a Medical Laboratory Specialist, you will be responsible for performing basic and guided advanced donor and patient tests and interpreting results to determine donor-recipient compatibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consult and communicate with staff at other medical facilities to resolve serologic problems and provide special units to transfusion recipients.
  • Manage receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of patient and donor blood samples, including ordering, receiving, inspecting, and preparing reagents associated with donor product inventory.
  • Perform and interpret independent basic and complex donor and/or patient testing procedures and complete required quality control, as appropriate to state and federal regulations.
  • May assume lead responsibilities to maintain, edit, and review computer and manual records to assure accurate record keeping.

Requirements:

  • MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) /equivalent, bachelor's degree with major in biological science or chemistry plus 3 years blood banking experience, or MLT (ASCP) certification plus 5 years laboratory experience required.
  • MT (ASCP) and/or BB (ASCP) or equivalent desired.
