Job Summary

This is a part-time custodial position that requires routine manual labor associated with daily cleaning, security, and safe operation of District facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various duties requiring moderate physical strength, including moderate to heavy-duty cleaning and restorations, minor assembly and repair, and providing custodial assistance to employees on leave or light duty.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Duties:
    • Relocate furniture to prepare areas for remodeling, restoration, or heavy cleaning
    • Perform restorations in interior building areas, including classrooms, restrooms, gymnasiums, and common spaces, on a variety of surfaces
    • Provide services for special activities, including setting up seating and court configurations and removing/storing props and furniture when activities conclude
    • Assemble and repair furniture, and identify and report items requiring more complicated repairs
    • Assist with training, record keeping, and administrative tasks
    • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Housekeeping Duties:
    • Perform operations associated with the floor care program, including dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, spot cleaning, stain removal, gum removal, and carpet extraction
    • Pick up litter and empty trash, provide services for the lunch program, change plastic waste bags, clean and dust restrooms, classrooms, chalkboards, erasers, pencil sharpeners, walls, ceiling, light fixtures, glass, blinds, and draperies
    • Remove and replace defective lights and replace and adjust ceiling tiles
    • Pick up trash from grounds and playground areas, water turf, sweep sidewalks, and perform snow removal operations
    • Fill in for absent and vacant custodial positions as needed
    • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: One year of experience as a Millard Custodian I
  • Other Requirements:
    • Ability to operate mechanical equipment, such as floor scrubbers, snow blowers, and other commercial-grade equipment required to maintain a building
    • Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning processes and the proper usage of materials, chemicals, and equipment
    • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength
    • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions
    • Ability to establish and maintain amicable working relations with supervisors, staff, students, the general public, and fellow workers
    • Ability to work overtime as required
    • Ability to work varied schedules, including swing shifts at locations throughout the district
    • Ability to work inside and outside buildings in fluctuating conditions
    • Ability to complete required training
    • Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding
    • Able to perform assigned duties with minimum supervision
    • A neat and clean appearance is required
