Job Summary

This position provides comprehensive facilities maintenance support for complex facilities with office, laboratory, computer, warehouse, and other special purpose spaces. The successful candidate will assist with preventive maintenance and general repairs on building operating systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections of building operating systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Correct deficiencies discovered during preventive maintenance or inspections, or as a result of normal operations.
  • Develop and utilize preventive maintenance schedules for all building systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date inspection and maintenance logs.
  • Perform a variety of multi-skilled trades to address facilities maintenance needs, including tasks such as light fixture replacement, window replacement, and office reconditioning.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing facility maintenance services, identify resource needs, and review needs with management staff.
  • Make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing facility maintenance standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and control supplies and equipment, and order supplies and tools as requested.
  • Perform all work in conformance with applicable Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations.
  • Maintain open communications with the Facility Manager regarding all work activities, and make recommendations for repairs and improvements in facility maintenance processes.
  • Perform other facility maintenance, repair, and inspection services as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a building maintenance, repair, and construction program.
  • Materials, methods, terminology, equipment, and tools used in the maintenance, repair, and construction of building structures and systems.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment and the ability to diagnose and correct equipment malfunctions.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of safety management.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use tools of office automation, including computers and applicable software applications.
  • Knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply facility maintenance manuals and technical bulletins, construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a diversified group of people under sometimes trying and stressful conditions.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Ability to use common hand tools and other related equipment.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate, and recommend sound solutions to problems of routine nature.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to pass background check for Federal Agency to obtain security access badging.
  • Candidates must be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible general/facility maintenance experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.
Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described in this job description are representative of those an employee would encounter while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.

Work is typically performed in an indoor environment, with some activities being completed outside. There is exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week - Day/Swing/Night Shifts Available.
