POSITION SUMMARY

PARKS CUSTODIAL SERVICES SPECIALIST

This role primarily involves the cleaning and upkeep of public park restroom facilities and associated areas. Candidates should possess knowledge of effective cleaning methods, tools, and the proper application of cleaning agents. A minimum of two years of experience in custodial or housekeeping roles within a multi-facility environment is preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for maintaining the aesthetics and functionality of park landscapes and facilities, including the repair and upkeep of various structures and outdoor amenities. Specific duties may include:
  • Cleaning and removing debris from parks, buildings, restrooms, and athletic facilities.
  • Preparing facilities for events, recreational programs, and athletic use as required.
  • Implementing plans for the care and maintenance of various landscape types, including trees, shrubs, and turf.
  • Operating landscape equipment such as tractors and tillers.
  • Performing basic irrigation maintenance tasks.
  • Following safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment for all team members.
  • Compiling daily, monthly, and annual reports as directed by the supervisor.
  • Providing custodial services to various park areas, including picnic spots, playgrounds, and nature trails.
  • Completing additional tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least two years of experience in manual labor within landscaping, groundskeeping, or custodial services.
  • Familiarity with cleaning techniques and equipment.
  • Basic writing and verbal communication skills.
  • A valid Florida class B Driver's License is preferred, with the requirement to obtain it within the first six months of employment if not already held.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Understanding of basic landscape maintenance and construction practices.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with Parks staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Proficiency in safely operating various equipment and performing job-related tasks.
  • Experience with tools used in planting and maintaining landscaped areas.
  • Knowledge of irrigation system operation and repair.
  • Must maintain a safe driving record.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Exposure to fumes from automotive exhaust, paints, and chemicals.
  • Work primarily outdoors, subject to varying weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to insects and other pests.
  • Ability to perform strenuous manual labor.
  • Capability to lift and carry loads ranging from 40 to 80 pounds.
