About the Role

Holcim US, a leading supplier of quality construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Fleet Mechanic to support operations at our Newington plant in Lorton, Virginia. This position will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of fixed mechanical equipment. The ideal candidate will have a fleet maintenance vehicle and will assist as needed within the Ready MiX network throughout the Virginia area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general overhaul and repair work on gasoline, diesel, and propane powered engines such as automobiles, trucks, and other automotive and mechanical equipment.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and parts including cooling, fuel, and exhaust components.
  • Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability.
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Perform preventive maintenance work on vehicles, including lubrication and oil change.
  • Repair cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems; tune engines using standard testing equipment.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and related parts including valves, hoses, belts, and alternators.
  • May fabricate and modify parts and equipment.
  • Repair engine failures, mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, body repair, and replacing parts and components.
  • Service machinery and mechanical equipment by completing repairs on engines, hydraulics systems, mobile, and stationary equipment.
  • Keep an accurate log of all work performed.
  • Maintain and clean all garage equipment and tools to ensure equipment is kept in useable condition at all times.

Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience performing the functions listed above in a construction, building materials, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
  • Mechanical skills, physical strength, practical skills, problem-solving orientation, and customer service abilities.
  • Proficient in hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to prepare work estimates and quotes.
  • Experience conducting routine services and vehicle maintenance.
  • Excellent oral communication skills with close attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions without limitations.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Licenses Required: Valid Driving License.
  • Good Driving Record.
  • Welding skills highly desirable (CW, CW, CWE, or CWRT).
