Electrical Controls Supervisor

The Electrical Controls Supervisor will play a crucial role in supporting the operational and maintenance objectives of the mill, aiming to achieve top quartile status. This position is responsible for troubleshooting electrical, instrumental, and process malfunctions, including mechanical power transmission equipment and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the electrical team to maintain and improve PLC and automation control systems, ensuring all work is completed safely and reliably.

Develop and impart knowledge to mill personnel, enhancing their skill level to match the systems in place.

Effectively engage with mill-level personnel, understand their needs, and deliver necessary support in a timely manner.

Manage and develop electrical technicians, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Utilize excellent troubleshooting skills to resolve issues with drives, PLCs, control systems, and electrical equipment.

Ensure the maintenance and care of optimization systems, including software and hardware.

Respond to emergency situations, demonstrating a 'whatever it takes' mindset.

Identify opportunities for improvement and collaborate with local mill management to implement these changes.

Assist in project planning, startups, and helping the mill meet/exceed ramp expectations.

Work with vendors to expedite the implementation of improvements and move the mill beyond their expertise.

Requirements:

Electrical Engineering Degree

Previous Industrial Experience

Familiarity with Allen Bradley products, VFD Drives, Soft Starters, and HMI's

Experience with PLC 5 and Control Logix PLC platforms

Knowledge of communication network protocols: ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNet

Proficiency in computer and Microsoft Office software packages

Experience working with high and low voltages

Demonstrated supervisor abilities

Ability to manage small projects and day-to-day work planning

Experience following electrical schematics

Good track record with troubleshooting skills

A proven safe work record

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years of experience with controls and automation

Minimum 1-year experience in manufacturing

Excellent communication skills

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Willingness to grow and consider relocation opportunities

Service-oriented attitude to support production needs

Continuous process improvement mindset

Team player with ability to work with vendors

Flexibility to work flexible hours based on business needs
