The Service Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the service department runs smoothly and profitably. This position involves maximizing production efficiency, managing costs, fostering customer loyalty, maintaining positive employee relations, and achieving sales and profit targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set and pursue departmental goals and objectives
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork across all departments
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the service department
  • Stay informed about and comply with relevant regulations affecting service operations
  • Recruit, train, motivate, and evaluate service department personnel
  • Provide guidance on administrative policies and procedures for staff
  • Organize and direct the daily activities of all service employees
  • Offer technical support to staff as necessary
  • Facilitate meetings to address departmental issues and initiatives
  • Oversee payroll records for technicians
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to encourage repeat business
  • Stay updated on manufacturer warranty policies and act as a liaison with factory representatives
  • Collaborate with vocational and technical schools for recruitment purposes
  • Maintain communication with factory representatives
  • Welcome customers promptly and provide accurate estimates for service costs and timelines
  • Address and resolve customer complaints effectively
  • Conduct quality checks on completed work
  • Keep informed about new equipment and provide accurate repair estimates
  • Ensure cleanliness in work areas and customer waiting areas
  • Monitor departmental performance through various reporting systems
  • Analyze repair order trends and metrics
  • Ensure customer service files are current and accessible

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of automotive service technical experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in a service management role
  • Proven experience in managing teams and groups
  • Strong communication skills with customers and employees
  • Experience in a Body Shop is preferred
