Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in a basic recruit training program at a certified training school
  • Assist experienced personnel in various activities and tasks
  • Perform routine motor patrol, motorcycle traffic enforcement, code enforcement, bicycle or foot patrol
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide assistance as needed
  • Participate in special programs and projects as assigned
  • Prepare and submit various records and reports
  • Operate a police vehicle, bicycle, and/or motorcycle, police radar, firearms, and other police-issued equipment
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Be at least 19 years of age
  • Pass the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) or the Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT)
  • Pass the Miami-Dade College Physical Ability Test (PAT) or the Broward College Institute of Public Safety Motors Test (BMST)
  • Valid Florida driver's license
  • Good moral character
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other law enforcement agencies
Working Conditions

The Police Officer Cadet will work in a variety of environments, including patrol cars, police stations, and community events. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, make quick decisions, and communicate effectively with the public and other law enforcement agencies.

Benefits

The City of Miami Gardens offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 176 hours of Personal Time Off (PTO) in lieu of vacation and sick time and 12 paid holidays (11 holidays and 1 floating holiday). The City participates in the retirement plan administered by the Florida Retirement System (FRS), which requires a mandatory 3% contribution. Additional voluntary benefits include dental insurance, vision insurance, flexible spending account, 457 Deferred Compensation plan, Roth IRA, additional life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, supplemental insurance plans, legal and identity theft coverage.
