BUILDING PERMIT SPECIALIST

Employment Opportunities Available

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Building Permit Specialist. This role involves performing a variety of essential customer service, administrative, and technical support tasks within the Community Development Department.

Key Responsibilities:

The Building Permit Specialist will be responsible for:
  • Providing information and assistance to the public regarding the development and permitting processes.
  • Reviewing applications and documents for completeness and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Issuing minor residential building permits and calculating associated fees.
  • Maintaining accurate records and databases related to permit applications.
  • Coordinating with other departments and agencies as necessary to facilitate the permit review process.
  • Preparing reports and informational materials for public distribution.

Working Conditions:
The position requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking, along with the ability to lift and manage files and documents weighing up to 25 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Candidates must possess either an Associate's degree in a relevant field with one year of related experience or a high school diploma with three years of progressively responsible experience in a similar role.

Knowledge and Skills:
Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of:
  • Principles of customer service and public interaction.
  • Office procedures and computer applications relevant to the position.
  • Building codes and regulations as they pertain to permitting.
