Data Scientist II

PacifiCorp is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist II to join our T&D Operations team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support on complex and business-critical projects related to wildfire mitigation, asset performance, and T&D Operations across six states.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research studies and technical analyses in areas of specialized data science to support company objectives, including wildfire risk modeling and analysis, electric service reliability analysis, and ad hoc projects in support of electric operations program teams.
- Support data science projects, processes, or systems over the life cycle of the project, including project identification, scope development, implementation, and long-term operations and maintenance.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams to analyze complex problems, identify issues, innovate, and deliver solutions consistent with schedules established.
- Provide technical expertise across business units to support functions such as wildfire mitigation and reliability within the T&D Operations organization.
- Develop detailed computational analysis, including data science, computer modeling, and scripting and tool development, and integrate methods and products within and across company software products.
- Participate in government, industry, collegiate, and other applicable associations or work groups that have the ability to influence or set policy impacting the future of our utility.
- Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
- Support data literacy and scripting knowledge development across the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Math, or Engineering from an accredited college/university.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a power/utility/energy industry or related professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in Python (or related language).
- Knowledge of SQL query construction and optimization.
- Technical writing skills.
- Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way through visualizations.
- Ability to review scientific literature and incorporate knowledge into ongoing projects.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and support multiple departments.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Knowledge of industry best practices for data science and data governance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Python (or related language) and associated libraries for machine learning.
- Experience with time series modeling and forecasting.
- Experience working with public utility commissions (PUCs) and their requirements/regulations.
- Experience working in the utilities, risk management, or wildfire mitigation sector.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Azure Machine Learning environment.
- Experience with C#, Spark, or R.
- Understanding of the Company's business and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
- Experience with wildfire science or wildfire-related analytics use cases strongly preferred.
- Experience using ESRI toolsets including ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
- Experience utilizing Python geospatial packages such as matplotlib, shapely, and other relevant spatial tools.
