Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System. As a COTA, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to provide occupational therapy treatment to patients, maintaining established departmental policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Occupational Therapist during patient testing, evaluations, and procedures.
  • Carry out a treatment program for assigned patients, as determined by the evaluation performed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Design and fit adaptive devices such as splints, braces, ADL devices, and tools based on patient disability and rehabilitation needs.
  • Teach patients/family the skills and techniques required for participation in Occupational Therapy, adapting the instruction and techniques to meet the comprehension level of the patients/family.
  • Report any changes in a patient's condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist and assist in updating treatment plans.
  • Maintain adequate records within the medical record regarding patient responses to treatment techniques.
  • Maintain communication with physicians, via verbal and written reports, regarding patient treatment.
  • Supervise Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides appropriately.
  • Conduct or participate in Inservice training as needed for other hospital personnel.
  • Participate in educational programs and Inservice meetings.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree and graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapist Assistant program training or experience in a related environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age, limitations, and planned rehabilitation goals.
