Advanced Wound Care Specialist

The Registered Nurse specializing in Wound Care is responsible for delivering direct patient care to individuals with wounds or related conditions. This role involves providing specialized and advanced wound management for patients experiencing disruptions in skin integrity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engages in the Wound Management Center's provision of tailored, efficient care while respecting the spiritual and cultural differences of patients.
- Utilizes critical thinking to prevent, assess, and resolve patient care challenges.
- Adheres to the established care plan and collaborates with the Wound Management Center team as necessary.
- Leads the care team in the absence of the manager, as directed.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the assessment and operation of equipment such as handheld Doppler devices, cast removal saws, and negative pressure wound therapy systems.
- Exhibits comprehensive knowledge of wounds, treatment modalities, interventions, and anticipated outcomes.
- Participates in the development of new programs and treatment strategies as they arise.
- Possesses expertise in offloading techniques and interventions that promote wound healing.
- Articulates an understanding of underlying comorbidities and their impact on wound healing processes.
- Demonstrates knowledge of compression therapy and its application in wound healing.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Must be capable of sitting for up to 2 hours daily; standing for up to 8 hours daily; and walking for 6 hours daily. Ability to lift, carry, and push objects weighing up to 75 lbs., and transport patients weighing up to 400 lbs. with assistance when necessary. Must be able to pull up to 10 lbs. and frequently pull up to 250 lbs. with assistance as needed. Must be able to stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, crawl, and reach above shoulder level. Must possess tactile perception to assess objects and be able to grasp, twist, and manipulate items with hands and fingers. Must have auditory capabilities to perceive normal sounds across various frequencies. Must have visual acuity for color differentiation, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus on visual tasks (e.g., computer screens).
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Current RN licensure is required based on the state of practice. A BSN is preferred. CPR/BLS certification is required within 60 days of hire. Wound Care Specialist certification or a commitment to obtain certification within three years of employment is preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two years of nursing experience with direct patient care is required. Experience in wound care, home health, rehabilitation, burn care, or critical care is preferred. Completion of an entry-level Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Program from an accredited organization is necessary to qualify as a Hyperbaric staff nurse (if applicable).
