This Weekend Program role involves a commitment of 36 hours per week, providing the opportunity for comprehensive benefits and premium compensation.

The Registered Respiratory Care Specialist evaluates patients' conditions and determines the necessity for respiratory interventions; administers suitable therapies in critical and non-critical settings as per physician directives. Responsible for establishing and sustaining appropriate ventilatory support. Conducts diagnostic assessments and interprets results in relation to patient care. May assume shift leadership responsibilities for the department as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains ventilatory support for both adult and pediatric patients in all critical care environments. Adjusts settings and weans patients in collaboration with physician directives or established protocols.
  • Assesses patients, documents evaluations and findings in medical records, and consults with physicians regarding suitable therapies.
  • Delivers respiratory care and oxygen therapy modalities to patients following physician orders or established protocols. Monitors and evaluates therapy outcomes.
  • Participates as a member of the "Code Blue" and "Rapid Response" teams. Collects arterial blood samples, maintains patient airways, and provides artificial ventilation as necessary.
  • Performs arterial punctures on adult and pediatric patients. Analyzes samples for blood gas metrics.
  • Conducts A-line insertions after receiving appropriate training on adult patients.
  • Executes diagnostic evaluations such as oximetry, CO2 monitoring, oxygen consumption assessments, metabolic studies, and bedside pulmonary function testing.
  • Consults with physicians regarding patient evaluations and appropriate therapies.
  • Engages in in-service training. Assists physicians during bronchoscopy procedures at the bedside, fluoroscopy, and GI Lab. Properly labels and manages specimens.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Ability to sit for up to two hours daily in one-hour increments. Capable of standing for up to three hours daily in one-hour increments. Must be able to walk for up to twelve hours daily in fifteen-minute increments. Frequent use of fingers for manipulating small vials and equipment. Continuous hand usage for writing and operating respiratory apparatus. Regular twisting and turning of hands and body to provide patient care. Occasional lifting of boxes and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Frequent carrying of objects or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Regular pushing or pulling of equipment or patients weighing up to 300 pounds. Frequent bending and stooping. Occasional crouching and reaching above shoulder level. Ability to palpate arteries and assess skin temperature. Hearing capabilities for normal, high, and low frequencies. Visual acuity for general, distant, near, color, and peripheral vision, along with depth perception.

Educational Requirements:

Possession of a current Respiratory Therapist license in the State of New Jersey. Credentials obtained through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).

Training and Experience:

A minimum of six months of clinical experience, either concurrent with a training program or post-graduation. Completion of departmental orientation tailored to individual knowledge and expertise.
