Position Overview:

The Hang Point Lead plays a pivotal role in overseeing a crucial production transition point, specifically the transfer of fabricated components to a semi-automated powder coating line. This position is responsible for ensuring that all fabricated parts meet the necessary specifications for the powder coating process and for coordinating the suspension of these components onto the paint line chain system. The role demands effective leadership of a diverse team while maintaining strict adherence to quality, production, and safety protocols.

An ideal candidate for the Hang Point Lead position will exhibit strong communication abilities, meticulous attention to detail, a commitment to efficiency, and a solid understanding of both fabrication and painting processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Emphasize a Safety First approach in all tasks.
  • Collaborate with departmental coordinators and supervisors to plan, schedule, and communicate daily production activities and expectations, while assigning work to production staff.
  • Ensure optimal allocation of personnel and resources to facilitate efficient and safe operations at the transition point between fabrication and painting.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to production staff, holding them accountable as a front-line leader and escalating issues to coordinators/supervisors when necessary.
  • Work closely with leaders from other departments (including Fabrication, Quality, Materials/Inventory, Shipping, and Maintenance) to enhance operational efficiency and resolve any bottlenecks or challenges affecting output.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production and adjust activities as needed to meet or exceed established quotas.
  • Assess all aspects of the fabrication-to-paint line transition, identify opportunities for operational enhancements, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and perform production tasks such as machine setup and hanging fabricated parts on the paint line chain as required to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Support compliance with safety regulations in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Assist in various production areas to maintain operational integrity.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a fabrication or light manufacturing environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a leadership role overseeing production employees.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish to effectively communicate work instructions and safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a fabrication or light manufacturing setting.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership capacity managing production teams.
  • 5+ years of experience with industrial powder coating technology.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and evaluate work instructions, process guidelines, technical manuals, safety instructions, and other production-related documents.
  • Effective communication skills to convey work instructions to a diverse workforce.
  • Capacity to instill urgency and hold teams accountable for their responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with general manufacturing, fabrication, and material flow processes and equipment.
  • Basic mathematical skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions accurately.
  • Problem-solving skills in standardized situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly lift and/or move objects weighing 10-20 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move objects exceeding 100 lbs.
  • Able to work in typical production environment conditions including lighting, noise, humidity, and temperature variations.
