After School Lead Teacher Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Teacher to join our team at the West Cook YMCA. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and engaging scholars in all program components and activities of the YMCA Afterschool Signature Program.
Job DescriptionThe Lead Teacher will be responsible for implementing a quality program that meets the individual physical, social emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants. This includes preparing classrooms for daily activities, collaborating with program staff to ensure objectives are reached, and maintaining accurate classroom records.
The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to a child-centered approach to youth development, with a focus on instilling character development values. They will also have experience in implementing program activities and tasks, as well as exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities- Implement a quality program that meets the individual physical, social emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants.
- Prepare classrooms for daily activities and collaborate with program staff to ensure objectives are reached.
- Maintain accurate classroom records.
- Use best practices, guidelines, and methods of youth development in daily work and provide careful, attentive supervision.
- Facilitate a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.
The successful candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
- Two or more years of experience working with school-aged children (ages 5-12).
- Experience in implementing program activities and tasks.
- Exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Flexibility, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Ability to build relationships and influence students.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
The Lead Teacher will be required to:
- Walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
The Lead Teacher will be compensated at $25 per hour, with a part-time schedule following the school district calendar (Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm).
