Key Responsibilities:

As a Crisis Support Counselor, you will play a vital role in delivering a wide range of crisis interventions for clients at Berks Counseling Center. Your responsibilities will encompass both on-site and community-based services, requiring close collaboration with local hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and our crisis response team.

Your duties will include:

  • Conducting outreach to individuals discharged from inpatient care on the same day of their release.
  • Meeting with individuals post-discharge within a week to ensure continuity of care.
  • Providing counseling and clinical support to address any gaps in care.
  • Assisting individuals who require inpatient treatment.
  • Coordinating referrals and admissions to inpatient facilities in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Delivering care in inpatient settings to facilitate a smooth transition back to outpatient services.
  • Performing screenings, assessments, and evaluations for clients in crisis, whether in person, via phone, or in the community.
  • Assessing the severity of crisis situations.
  • Documenting crisis interactions in a Critical Incident Log and completing necessary reports.
  • Connecting clients with community-based emergency response services as needed.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including emergency departments, treatment facilities, and law enforcement agencies.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant social services field.
  • A minimum of one year of direct counseling experience or equivalent internship.
  • Certification from the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) or the ability to obtain it within one year of employment.
  • A valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and the capacity to provide community-oriented services.
  • The ability to work 40 hours per week during agency operational hours.

Physical Requirements:

Applicants must be able to:

  • See well enough to read reports and operate a computer.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Move around the agency and community as needed.
  • Lift items weighing up to 5 pounds.
  • Utilize technology and operate a motor vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A master's degree in a related field with at least three months of direct counseling experience.
  • Licensure as an LSW, LCSW, or LPC with experience in substance use or mental health counseling.
  • Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish.
  • Certification as a Certified Alcohol Counselor from the Pennsylvania Certification Board.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care approaches.
  • Familiarity with community resources for low-income, high-risk populations.
  • Experience in documenting clinical needs accurately and promptly.
