Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated PICU Nurse who thrives in a dynamic hospital environment. In this role, you will deliver exceptional nursing care to pediatric patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating care tailored to their developmental needs while adhering to family-centered care principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients and their families, considering biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual, and environmental factors.
  • Analyze patient situations, foresee potential issues, and identify changes in patient conditions.
  • Continuously update and adjust care plans based on new insights and patient status changes, ensuring effective communication with the healthcare team.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care discussions, documenting relevant information in medical records.
  • Support patients and families in understanding and executing their roles in the care plan.
  • Assess learning needs and readiness of patients and families prior to educational interventions.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills while interacting with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Administer medications and treatments promptly and accurately, maintaining thorough documentation.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and skill enhancement to elevate individual and team performance.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at improving unit performance.
Qualifications

All employees at Texas Children's Hospital are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless an exemption for medical or religious reasons is approved.


  • A Bachelor's degree in nursing, an associate's degree, or a technical diploma in nursing with current enrollment in a BSN program is required. Alternatively, an associate's degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing is acceptable for obtaining and maintaining an RN license.
  • A minimum of 1 year of nursing experience is required.
  • Current RN License issued by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse License Compact.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, effective time and resource management, flexibility, and excellent oral and written communication abilities are essential.
  • Knowledge of unit-specific equipment, nursing processes, critical thinking, PALS, and interdisciplinary collaboration is expected.
