We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ferry Chief Engineer to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation, Hampton Roads District, Jamestown Scotland Ferry. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our ferry vessels.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate and monitor main engines and auxiliary machinery on ferry vessels to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Perform minor repairs to all systems and maintain vessel readiness for USCG inspections.
- Record keeping and maintenance of ship's engineering log, machinery usage, and readings.
- Ensure engine room security and respond to emergency situations.
- Provide information and assistance to passengers and resolve issues in a professional manner.
- Minimum of MMC-endorsed as a Chief Engineer of motor vessels of at least 3000 H.P.
- Knowledge of United States Coast Guard regulations governing ferry operations.
- Ability to train others and diagnose and repair primary and ancillary systems on the ferry.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, schematics, and manuals.
- Valid driver's license and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- A competitive salary range of $71,414 to $116,048.
