Position Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of safety initiatives and fire protection programs across various project sites, ensuring adherence to corporate safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and mitigate hazardous conditions and unsafe practices among employees and subcontractors through effective safety management.
  2. Conduct thorough inspections, air quality assessments, and investigations related to property damage and personal injuries.
  3. Document incidents, safety breaches, and unsafe practices, performing root cause analyses as necessary.
  4. Perform hazard assessments and recommend corrective actions and personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize risks.
  5. Ensure that all safety records and reports are complete, accurate, and submitted in accordance with established protocols.
  6. Implement corrective measures as required and collaborate with safety, health, and insurance personnel during site inspections.
  7. Develop and deliver safety orientation training programs for employees.
  8. Conduct both classroom and field training for project personnel.
  9. Maintain compliance with safety regulations while working in various environmental conditions.

Supervisory Role:

Oversee a team of 5-10 employees, fostering a culture of safety and compliance.

Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of 10 years of experience in a Safety Manager role within the heavy civil construction sector, with at least 5 years of MSHA experience.
  2. Preferred qualifications include MSHA instructor certification and OSHA Qualified Trainer status.
  3. Extensive knowledge of safety regulations pertaining to heavy equipment, excavations, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  4. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse groups effectively.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with SharePoint is advantageous.
  6. Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing to heights.

Education:

A four-year degree in occupational safety or a related field is preferred, along with relevant certifications such as CSP, CSHM, or CIH.

Work Environment:

This role may require working in extreme temperatures and various terrains, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety.
