Under the general oversight of a licensed nursing professional, the Patient Care Support Specialist is tasked with executing a range of supportive activities for the healthcare team engaged in inpatient nursing services across various facilities. This role also encompasses additional related responsibilities as necessary.


Key Features:
This position is categorized as entry-level for Patient Care Support Specialist I and as journey-level for Patient Care Support Specialist II.

COMPENSATION:

Patient Care Support Specialist I:
$35, $44,697.98 Annually

Patient Care Support Specialist II:
$35, $48,003.70 Annually

Patient Care Support Specialist I-

PDP:
$18.93 Hourly

Patient Care Support Specialist II-

PDP:
$20.39 Hourly

EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVES:


Employees may qualify for an educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on the attainment of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not mandatory for the role.

Additionally, employees may be eligible for a bilingual incentive based on operational requirements and certification of proficiency.

REFERRAL INCENTIVES:
In accordance with applicable agreements, a regular employee may qualify for an Employee Referral Incentive of $500 under specific conditions.

VETERAN'S POINTS:
This classification is designed for trainees/entry-level candidates, and Veteran's Points may be applicable to eligible applicants.

Patient Care Support Specialists are represented by the Services Employees International Union (SEIU) and are entitled to overtime compensation.


The established eligibility list from this recruitment will be utilized to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-term), Intermittent, and Extra-help vacancies.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Monitoring and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
  • Preparing patients and assisting with their nutritional needs.
  • Weighing, bathing, and dressing patients; performing oral hygiene; changing linens and maintaining patient beds.
  • Conducting routine patient care and executing postmortem duties as required.
  • Assisting with bedpan usage and operating mechanical lifts.
  • Documenting patient vital signs, intake, and output; observing and reporting any significant changes in patient conditions.
  • Providing limited administrative support as needed.
  • Transporting patients for admissions, discharges, and procedures.
  • Assisting ambulatory patients as necessary.
  • Ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:


These are the minimum requirements to participate in the examination process and do not guarantee progression or placement on an eligibility list.


Education, Training, and Experience:

Patient Care Support Specialist I:

A minimum of three (3) months of experience in a licensed healthcare facility or comparable work experience or educational coursework in a health-related field.


Patient Care Support Specialist II:

At least six (6) months of experience as a Patient Care Support Specialist I or equivalent experience; OR a Certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician; OR a combination of relevant experience/coursework (e.g., 3 months of experience as a Patient Care Support Specialist plus Emergency Medical Technician coursework); OR Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA Certificate) issued by the appropriate authority.


Special Requirements:


Candidates must possess a valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification prior to commencing employment and maintain it throughout their tenure.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA Certificate) issued by the relevant authority.
  • Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program approved by the state.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient knowledge and ability to:

apply methods, procedures, and equipment utilized in patient care to deliver direct support; maintain confidentiality and effective relationships with staff and patients; and adapt to various departments as required.

In certain instances, Patient Care Support Specialists may receive training in phlebotomy and electrocardiogram techniques.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:


Responsibilities necessitate frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling, along with the ability to move, position, and lift patients and/or equipment to fulfill patient care duties.
