The successful candidate will work in a state-of-the-art, high-volume Research Histology service facility that supports clinicians and faculty investigators for the University of Pittsburgh and affiliated institutions.
Key Responsibilities- Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments, including determining experimental protocols and preparing specimens and cultures.
- Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analysis.
- Oversees specimen inventory and develops documentation for publication.
- Crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Supports the histology technicians and manager with daily lab operations, including receiving and distributing projects, database management, sample preparation, equipment maintenance, reagent formulation, and maintaining stock supplies.
- Prepares and facilitates the organization of projects.
- Transfers materials to and from the imaging department.
- Undergoes training in basic areas of histology to assist the techs as needed.
- Performs tasks assigned by the manager.
- Sitting and standing at the bench for long periods.
- Reading small print on tubes and vials.
- Bending and lifting to put away lab supplies.
- Lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Walking between buildings to go to different lab sites.
