Overview
The Patient Support Specialist will assist individuals in completing Medical Assistance Applications for those who may be eligible for benefits under the Medical Assistance Program or other entitlement programs. This role involves gathering all necessary documentation required by the relevant authorities to assess eligibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the completion of Medical Assistance Applications, assess for disability, and assist with hospital charity care forms alongside patients or their representatives.
- Maintain daily updates in the electronic health record system.
- Ensure daily completion of Medical Assistance production reports.
- Deliver necessary documentation to the appropriate healthcare provider within 24 hours of application completion.
- Collect all required releases, waivers, and questionnaires.
- Provide each patient with a checklist of pending documents and conduct daily follow-ups while the patient remains in care.
- Fax all necessary verifications within the first 24-48 hours post-application.
- Prepare applications for submission to the relevant assistance office.
- Address discharge files promptly.
- Follow up with the assistance office until a determination is reached.
- Assist with Marketplace applications when applicable.
- Report any concerns regarding non-compliant patients to management.
- Safeguard and manage patients' protected health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
- Ability to work on-site as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- A degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in the healthcare sector is required.
- Experience in patient-facing roles is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills for one-on-one patient interactions.
- Ability to work independently with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent research and investigative skills.
- Proficient in using the internet and learning new databases.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- High level of organizational skills.
- Commitment to adhering to client policies and maintaining professionalism.
- Ability to meet established productivity targets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook is essential.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is an advantage.
