About the Job

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Workroom Clerk. This is a temporary, exempt position that requires an onsite presence in Olympia during the legislative session.

Job Summary

The Workroom Clerk will assist in the tracking and recording of all official action taken on legislation before the House of Representatives. This includes maintaining bill files, assisting in the production and distribution of legislative calendars, and updating legislative bill status and records.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in proofing and distributing all legislation, including bills, resolutions, and memorials.
  • Maintain bill files and assist in the production and distribution of legislative calendars.
  • Update legislative bill status and records to reflect committee and floor activity.
  • Process bill report packets, including publishing proposed substitute bills and amendments, recording roll call votes and committee action, verifying signatures, copying, and distributing referral packets and updating bill status.
  • Process floor amendments, including recording and maintaining an amendment log, copying, distributing, and filing.
  • Prepare transmittal slips for delivering House legislation to the Governor and Secretary of State.
  • Deliver documents to the Senate, Governor's Office, and Code Reviser's Office.
  • Assist with overtime tracking and coordination with House workgroups.
  • Provide administrative office support to the Chief Clerk's Office.
Requirements
  • General clerical and data entry experience required.
  • Requires strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions, learn and perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently, read, write, and file alphabetically and numerically, and operate computers, copiers, and general office equipment.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and project non-partisan behavior.
  • Must be willing to work under time constraints and maintain effective working relations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of college or business school coursework.
  • Direct experience with the legislative process and familiarity with state government.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and Zoom.
Working Conditions

This position requires an onsite presence in Olympia during the legislative session and must be able to frequently work more than 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
