At Confluent, we empower organizations to leverage the full potential of real-time data to innovate and excel in the contemporary digital landscape. Our mission drives us to enhance our capabilities every day as we pioneer a new category within data infrastructure - data streaming. This transformative technology enables every organization to craft experiences and harness the power of data in ways that significantly influence our daily lives. This profound impact is our guiding principle and motivates us to strive for excellence continuously.
**About the Position:**
The Cloud Platform division at Confluent is in search of a proactive and results-oriented Technical Program Manager (TPM). In this role, you will spearhead programs, platform initiatives, and cross-functional projects in close collaboration with technical stakeholders throughout a vast engineering organization.
You should possess the expertise and confidence to manage and deliver intricate projects punctually, particularly those related to cloud infrastructure or platform initiatives that involve cross-team dependencies. These projects typically extend over multiple quarters and encompass various teams, functions, and geographical locations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ **Platform Engineering Management:** Oversee the delivery of platform capabilities, including the evolution of our architecture to meet product requirements and market launch timelines.
+ **Strategic Planning:** Facilitate OKR planning, resource allocation, and roadmap decisions, advocating for platform scalability, reliability, performance, and other synergies.
+ **Execution Management:** Establish OKR tracking and reporting processes, alongside automation workflows utilizing tools such as JIRA, Slack, and Confluence. Lead project execution with established TPM best practices to ensure timely delivery with minimal organizational friction.
+ **Security Operations:** Manage fleet security operations, including common security practices, fleet rehydration, and vulnerability remediation.
+ **System Health Oversight:** Implement processes to monitor service level objectives (SLOs) and system health, while systematically addressing critical issues through a structured incident management framework.
+ **Metrics and Reporting:** Develop dashboards and reports to track metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), assessing weekly and quarterly trends and progress over time, including effort, capacity, and burndown rates.
+ **Risk Mitigation:** Proactively identify, communicate, and resolve obstacles or challenges impacting project timelines.
+ **Mentorship:** Train and support other engineering leaders to enhance their program management skills.
+ **Technical Guidance:** Assist in making informed technical decisions and trade-offs to mitigate risks. Clearly articulate technical architecture, choices, and trade-offs to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
**Qualifications:**
+ A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a TPM, managing complex, multi-phase projects across various engineering teams and organizations within cloud infrastructure or enterprise platform engineering.
+ Proven ability to manage multiple cross-functional programs concurrently while balancing other operational responsibilities.
+ Strong organizational skills in project planning, risk management, stakeholder collaboration, visibility management, and project tracking/reporting.
+ In-depth technical knowledge of backend distributed systems, with prior experience in cloud infrastructure lifecycle management and Kubernetes orchestration across major cloud platforms such as Amazon, Google, and Azure.
+ Proficiency in utilizing JIRA to create reports and dashboards for tracking metrics and KPIs using tools like Tableau, LookerStudio, or BigQuery.
+ A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills to effectively engage with both engineering leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
**Preferred Attributes:**
+ A strong sense of teamwork, prioritizing the interests of the team and organization.
+ A proactive, results-driven mindset focused on action and outcomes.
+ Effective negotiation skills to align and gain buy-in among teams with competing priorities towards a unified execution strategy.
+ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
+ Capacity to work autonomously, engage with stakeholders, and lead initiatives.
**Commitment to Diversity:**
At Confluent, we value equality as a fundamental aspect of our culture. We are dedicated to building an inclusive global team that reflects a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, beliefs, and experiences. The greater our diversity, the richer our community and the broader our impact.
We are committed to offering competitive compensation and benefits aligned with industry standards. Factors such as work history, education, professional experience, and location are carefully considered when determining compensation. This position includes an estimated annual salary range, an annual bonus, and a competitive equity package. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. Additionally, Confluent provides a comprehensive range of employee benefits.
