The Nursing Unit Coordinator is a vital leadership position that plays a key role in the operational management of the unit, fostering an environment of exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop, coordinate, and implement staffing strategies to ensure adequate patient care coverage.

Assess retrospective, current, and prospective unit productivity and adjust support staff to meet targeted levels.


Coordinate centralized staffing in alignment with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers to optimize staff/bed utilization in collaboration with the Administrative Coordinator Office.

Manage responses to urgent and emergent situations by reallocating personnel and resources as necessary.

Implement effective service recovery strategies.

Coach, mentor, and support team members.

Collaborate with nursing education to facilitate orientation initiatives and provide preceptor training and support.

Participate in the hiring, evaluation, corrective action, and termination processes as needed.

Responsibilities:
Educate team members on theoretical and clinical competencies related to care delivery typical of the unit.

Maintain the designated workload, including advisory and committee responsibilities.


Ensure quality nursing care is provided to all patients in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards.

Collaborate with unit leadership to provide formal feedback through the performance development process.

Work with unit leadership to achieve quality improvement and outcome-based initiatives.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required, with one to two years of progressive experience in the field. An advanced degree is preferred, depending on specific service needs and/or requirements. Supervisory experience is advantageous.

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in New York State.

Engage in orientation and continuing education, maintaining knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Complete population-specific competency annually for the populations served as identified in the scope of care and services.

Maintain BLS/CPR certification and other relevant certifications.

Participation in the Clinical Ladder is preferred.
