About Military Veterans in Journalism: Military Veterans in Journalism (MVJ) is a dedicated organization that empowers veterans in the media sector by fostering a sense of community, enhancing career opportunities, and advocating for diversity in newsrooms through veteran recruitment. Comprised of veterans and military family members, MVJ partners with media outlets, educational institutions, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to create pathways for veterans in the journalism field. Established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in May 2019, MVJ boasts over 1,000 members across the nation, including both active and aspiring journalists.

Position Summary: We are in search of an On-Camera Influencer for the Minnesota division of our Information Integrity Project (IIP). The IIP is committed to addressing the proliferation of misinformation and extremism within veteran and military circles. The Influencer will be responsible for producing and delivering engaging, non-partisan content aimed at enhancing media literacy, countering the rise of misinformation and conspiracy theories, and advocating for alternatives to extremist views. The ideal candidate will possess a strong on-camera presence, exceptional communication abilities, and a fervent commitment to promoting accurate information to veterans.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with our small team to create concise on-camera content that educates veterans on media literacy, debunks conspiracy theories, and counters misinformation. This content should be filmed and edited in a straightforward, conversational style that is both educational and engaging.
• Work asynchronously with the IIP team, primarily via Slack, to ensure that all content aligns with the project’s non-partisan objectives and messaging.
• Stay updated on current trends in misinformation and media literacy to produce timely and relevant content in conjunction with our research team.
• Engage in editorial review processes to uphold high standards of accuracy and integrity.
• Participate in weekly meetings and contribute to team discussions and strategic planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience as an on-camera presenter or influencer, ideally in the realms of media literacy or misinformation counteraction.
• Understanding of the needs and interests of military and veteran communities in Minnesota.
• A strong passion for information integrity.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content creation.
• Capability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to non-partisanship, accuracy, objectivity, and ethical standards.
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Additional Information:

• This position is remote, with occasional meetings as necessary.
• Compensation is fee-based, contingent on the number of videos produced and utilized by MVJ. Further details regarding project timelines, deliverables, and communication protocols will be provided upon selection.
