Job Summary

The Senior Lead Counsel will serve as the HR Legal Head for Citigroup's LatAm Cluster, managing a team of employment lawyers and providing strategic guidance to senior business stakeholders and functional partners on employment law matters within the cluster.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal assistance and support to business stakeholders on employment and HR matters, including employment contracts, discrimination claims, and employment-related arbitration.
  • Offer critical inputs on compliance with employment laws and regulations, and counsel managers on compliance with employment laws.
  • Proactively identify, evaluate, and contribute to the management of legal, regulatory, and reputational risk.
  • Apply sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices.
  • Escalate, manage, and report control issues with transparency, and effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
  • Manage a significant caseload of litigation and liaise with litigation colleagues and country counsel in relation to country-based litigation and handle directly complex cases.
  • Manage a team of employees day-to-day and provide oversight, mentoring, and general pastoral support.
Qualifications
  • Approximately 10+ years of specific relevant legal experience with some experience working in an in-house legal role in financial services; previous managerial experience.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to apply sound judgment while managing multiple assignments simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and expertise on specific laws, rules, and regulations related to Employment & HR.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships.
  • Bar license in good standing to practice law.
  • Spanish fluency required.
Education
  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree required.
