The Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) is actively seeking a skilled Registered Dietitian to contribute to the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program within the Public Health Branch. The WIC initiative aims to support families, particularly those with pregnant women, new mothers, and children aged 0-5 years, in adopting healthy eating habits and ensuring optimal health outcomes for children. This program offers nutrition education, counseling, breastfeeding assistance, and referrals to healthcare and social services.

The WIC program is federally funded, managed through the State, and operated by the County. It serves eleven locations across the county, with the main office situated in Visalia, catering to over 22,000 enrolled participants. Clinic sizes range from 500 to 6,000 participants, with staffing levels adjusted accordingly.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee supervisory duties, including creating weekly staff schedules, conducting performance evaluations, training staff, communicating policy updates, and coordinating direct services and office operations.
  • Actively promote nutrition-related initiatives, such as the Women, Infants, and Children program and other County nutrition projects.
  • Supervise the training of paraprofessional staff in nutrition education and breastfeeding support.
  • Conduct audits of staff counseling on statewide information systems to ensure compliance with program standards.
  • Plan and engage in outreach activities and programs related to nutrition.
Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must meet the following qualifications by the application deadline:
  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education (CADE) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics.
  • Completion of an Accreditation of Dietetics Internship Program or an Accredited Coordinated Program.
  • Registered Dietitian status with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Maintenance of Registered Dietitian status throughout employment with Tulare County.
  • At least six months of relevant nutritional work experience; internship experience may fulfill this requirement.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Spanish.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license. Candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, and a background investigation may be conducted. Some positions may also require a physical examination.
