As a Radiology Specialist in Nuclear Medicine, you will play a crucial role in conducting and instructing diagnostic procedures within the Nuclear Medicine field. This role involves administering radiopharmaceuticals, operating advanced technical equipment, and interpreting the data obtained.
The Radiology Specialist operates under the guidance of the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor and collaborates closely with Nuclear Medicine physicians.
Key Responsibilities:
1.
Administration & Documentation of Radiopharmaceuticals:
Ensure accurate patient identification, confirm relevant details, and achieve venous access for radiopharmaceutical administration. Maintain thorough records of administration routes, dosages, and initials of the technologist. 2.
Communicate the examination process to patients, secure informed consent, and complete necessary documentation for patient information input into the radiology management system.
3. Review requisitions, patient charts, and laboratory results. Conduct patient assessments and confirm the status of female patients of childbearing age regarding pregnancy. Facilitate pregnancy testing as directed by the Nuclear Medicine physician. 4. May undertake advanced responsibilities such as those associated with Positron Emission Technology (PET) imaging or lead technologist duties. 5. Manage radiopharmaceutical handling, including receipt, documentation, and disposal, adhering to guidelines established by the Radiation Safety Office and regulatory bodies. 6.Ensure appropriate selection, dosage, and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals, confirming that each administered dose meets the requirements for the ordered procedure and is accurately recorded.
7. Prepare for and conduct acquisitions according to established protocols, ensuring patient comfort and safety. Analyze images for accuracy and process films for physician review. 8.Utilize RIS, CIS, SMS, and PACS systems to generate accurate documentation and complete all RIS orders with the correct charges.
Arrange transportation for inpatients to and from the Nuclear Medicine department as needed.

Education Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or registry eligible with the expectation of obtaining registration within one year of hire. Must maintain registry status and fulfill annual continuing education requirements.
