Role Overview


The Senior Cloud Security Strategist is tasked with safeguarding and enhancing the security of our cloud infrastructure, applications, and data.

This position involves the ongoing monitoring of changes to existing cloud environments to uphold the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of cloud resources while identifying vulnerabilities and mitigating risks.

This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to integrate security into cloud initiatives and tackle security challenges.

Key Skills and Technologies

- Proficient in Azure, AWS, and GCP

- Strong understanding of current and emerging technologies

- Expertise in monitoring tools, access control, and threat detection

- Eagerness to mentor, train, and share knowledge with colleagues

- In-depth knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, etc.

- Familiarity with practices that integrate security into the continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline.

- Knowledge of containerization technologies, including Docker and/or Kubernetes, and securing applications within those environments

- Capability to perform incident response within cloud platforms

- Leadership qualities coupled with the flexibility to collaborate with the technical team

Primary Responsibilities

- Conduct assessments of major cloud environments to identify vulnerabilities and security risks

- Provide recommendations for enhancing our security posture

- Collaborate with external teams to develop cloud-specific security policies, procedures, and standards

- Monitor and respond to security events related to cloud environments

- Implement a lessons-learned process for continuous improvement concerning cloud-related incidents

- Work with external teams to evaluate third-party cloud service providers for alignment with our security standards

- Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate security into the CI/CD pipeline and ensure ongoing security throughout the software development lifecycle

- Utilize a Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) solution to oversee and manage the configuration of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) frameworks, ensuring strict adherence to established security standards and policies

- Regularly review CSPM findings to proactively identify and address security vulnerabilities

- Produce and maintain documentation of all cloud-related security controls

- Analyze activities and document resolutions

- Identify problem areas, devise, and deliver solutions to enhance service quality and prevent future issues

- Define key operational metrics, develop reporting, and set targets for continuous improvement

- Participate in Information Security projects and support team efforts for daily operations

- Stay current on cloud-security trends while integrating best practices into our security strategy

- Actively automate repetitive tasks to enable the team to scale with organizational growth

- Communicate and act as a liaison with various teams

- Serve as a subject matter expert within SGWS and assist with complex cloud security issues as needed

- Occasional after-hours participation may be required in emergencies or critical situations

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's Degree

- Active CSSP or other relevant security-related certification

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree

- 10 or more years of experience in IT

- 7 or more years of hands-on experience in developing and maintaining cloud environments

- Relevant industry experience with a technical background

- Adaptability and ability to manage change

- In-depth understanding and extensive hands-on management of major cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, and Google Cloud Platform

- Ability to assess security risks associated with cloud environments

- Ability to analyze complex security issues, troubleshoot, and develop solutions

- Superior interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills

- Ability to monitor project progress by tracking activities, issues/risks/dependencies, and providing recommendations for resolution

- Familiarity with serverless computing models and understanding of security considerations specific to serverless architectures
