YOUR ROLE

As a Social Studies Educator for Middle School, you will guide classrooms of approximately 20 middle school students. Your daily responsibilities will include:
  • Implementing a variety of instructional, management, and assessment techniques to cater to the diverse needs of students.
  • Designing engaging and thoughtful unit and lesson plans on a daily basis.
  • Contributing to the creation, revision, administration, and evaluation of assessments.
  • Maintaining accurate and organized records of student performance and information.
  • Providing tutoring for small groups of students as necessary.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across different subjects and grade levels.
  • Participating actively in all meetings, including Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), grade-level discussions, and professional development sessions.
  • Conducting parent-teacher conferences as needed and managing ongoing communication with parents.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of students at all times.
  • Assisting with non-instructional supervision of students, including arrival/dismissal, hallway monitoring, substitute teaching, lunch and playground duty, or oversight of extracurricular activities.
  • Engaging in identity work and essential discussions aimed at dismantling white supremacy culture.
YOUR IMPACT

In your role as a Social Studies Educator, you will empower our scholars through teaching that balances cognitive development with critical thinking skills, utilizing a responsive, rigorous, and standards-aligned curriculum. Your responsibilities will encompass:
  • Fostering an environment that encourages scholarly engagement and critical analysis.
  • Employing a range of instructional, management, and assessment strategies tailored to the varied needs of students.
  • Crafting thoughtful and engaging unit and lesson plans each day.
  • Participating in the development, revision, administration, and grading of assessments.
  • Keeping meticulous and organized records of student information.
  • Providing tutoring to small groups of students as required.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across different content areas and grade levels.
  • Actively participating in all meetings, including PLCs, grade-level meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Conducting parent-teacher conferences as necessary and managing ongoing communication with parents.
  • Ensuring the safety of students at all times.
  • Assisting with non-instructional supervision of students, such as arrival/dismissal, hallway monitoring, substitute teaching, lunch and playground duty, or supervision of extracurricular activities.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Explore Schools offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. Our salary scale for this position is established with an equity perspective and is based on relevant years of experience, education, and certification.
  • Teachers with a bachelor's degree and varying years of experience can anticipate an annualized base salary ranging from $59,160 to $84,000. Those with a master's degree can expect a salary between $65,520 and $98,100.
  • We believe that teachers grow and enhance their impact over time. Our scale is designed to honor this growth, with no cap on years of experience for incoming teachers. Annual increases are provided based on tenure.
  • Additional compensation opportunities are available, including stipends for extra hours worked, leadership roles, and additional pay for specialized certifications.

LOCATION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Explore Schools operates a network of charter schools within the Brooklyn area. For this position:
  • In-person work is required.
  • This is an exempt position and is not eligible for overtime.
  • The standard work week is 45 hours, though there may be occasions requiring additional hours.
  • This role necessitates the ability to stand for at least 5 hours a day, navigate multiple flights of stairs, and respond quickly in emergencies.
