Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Quality Control Inspector to join our team in McGregor, Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of our Quality Management System (QMS). This includes visual inspection, dimensional control, traceability, and document control. The Quality Control department plays a critical role in ensuring the quality of our steel fabrication processes and resulting products.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual inspections of in-process and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and project specifications.
  • Inspect welds between steel parts to ensure they meet QMS and referenced standards.
  • Use non-destructive testing techniques, such as liquid penetration testing, to identify defects in products.
  • Maintain logs and records of inspections and results, including corrections for use in the final QC report and Quality Dossier.
  • Ensure all parts and assemblies have legible identification marks for each stage of production.
  • Follow the Inspection Test Plan.

Dimensional Control

  • Use measuring tools, such as micrometers and tape measures, to ensure products conform to fabrication parts and assemblies drawings and specifications.
  • Identify non-conforming items and mark areas requiring rework or repair.
  • Ensure dimensional control processes consider production workflow expectations.

Traceability

  • Verify receipt of all materials meets procurement standards and expectations.
  • Ensure all parts and assemblies have legible identification marks for each stage of production.
  • Identify and/or discard materials not in compliance with the QMS.

Document Control

  • Scan, upload, and/or input documents into facility software programs.
  • Utilize mobile wireless devices and scanners to track parts and completed products with respect to the QMS.
  • Ensure all required machine and/or equipment station logs are available to operators.
  • Distribute approved drawing revisions to production stations in accordance with the QMS.
  • Document inspection and QC activity results and communicate regularly any quality issues to management.
  • Maintain records of inspection results, including photographs, measurements, and other data, and prepare final QC reports and Quality Dossiers, as needed.

Quality Control

  • Ensure equipment used in fabrication processes is in good working order and maintained according to maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure all quality control tools, implements, devices, and instruments are properly calibrated in accordance with the QMS.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to identify opportunities for quality improvement.
  • Participate in regular meetings with production staff and management to inform on QC statuses, practices, procedures, and associated training.
  • Contribute to QMS improvement efforts, including internal and external audits as they relate to certifications of various types.

Safety

  • Follow all safety protocols and ensure the work area is safe for themselves and colleagues.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Participate in scheduled safety meetings.

Qualifications

  • Education: 2 or 4-year technical degree in steel welding, welding technology, steel materials, or equivalent.
  • Experience: 4 years in quality control inspection and documentation, preferably in structural steel fabrication environments. Experience with AISC, AWS, CWB certifications, and processes is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics. Familiarity with quality control programs, processes, and procedures.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of various AISC steel fabrication processes, including cutting, drilling, and welding in accordance with American Welding Society (AWS).
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail and ability to ensure accuracy in all work activities. Driven toward high-quality results through compliance with a QMS.
  • Communication Skills: Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to communicate effectively with colleagues and management.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve quality goals.
  • Certification: Professional certifications, such as those offered by the American Welding Society (AWS) or the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), are a plus. Ability to obtain NDT certification Level 1, 2, or 3 within 6 months of successful employment.
