Job Title: Medical Assistant/Back Office I, II, or III

Tri-City Healthcare District is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant/Back Office I, II, or III to join our team. As a Medical Assistant/Back Office I, II, or III, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant/Back Office I, II, or III will perform a variety of clinical and clerical responsibilities to assist care providers in examination and treatment of patients. This includes entering pertinent information into patient charts, performing related clerical tasks, and assisting physicians with patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit-based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Obtains, identifies, and records vital signs, prevention data, medications, chief complaints, and other pertinent information.
  • Observes, records, and reports pertinent patient symptoms, reactions, condition changes, and information.
  • Transcribes patient-specific data into electronic systems using practitioner-generated ICD-10 and CPT codes for billing, coding, and clinical data reporting and analysis.
  • Prepares rooms and instruments for use during exams or procedures.
  • Assists MDs, PAs, or NPs with a wide variety of patient care procedures and tests.
  • Collects, labels, and processes specimens as required by practitioners and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Follows departmental and organizational directives to isolate and process contaminated instruments and supplies.
  • Cleans rooms, furniture, instruments, and equipment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Identifies, draws up, and labels medications on sterile and unsterile fields for immediate verification and administration by practitioners.
  • Verbalizes preparation and shows practitioners medication containers.
  • Calls patient prescriptions to pharmacies, as ordered by authorized practitioners.
  • Assists in resolving and/or responding to non-clinical-related patient complaints and inquiries.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in interpersonal relations, customer service, detail-oriented, problem-solving, teamwork, creativity/innovation, and meeting variable workloads.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, receiving instructions.
Qualifications:
  • Medical Assistant I: Relevant clinical Medical Assistant experience, preferred. May consider applicable C.N.A. experience in lieu of Medical Assistant experience.
  • Medical Assistant II: Two to five years of relevant clinical medical assistant experience, required. May consider applicable C.N.A. experience in lieu of Medical Assistant experience.
  • Medical Assistant III: Minimum five years of relevant clinical medical assistant experience, required. May consider applicable C.N.A. experience in lieu of Medical Assistant experience. Minimum three years of dedicated subspecialty experience (orthopedics, cardiac, urology, general surgery, primary care, or other surgical specialty), required.
Education:
  • Medical Assistant I: Graduate of Medical Assisting program or graduate of Certified Nurse Assistant program or Military Medical Specialist training, required. May consider completion of two years on-the-job training in Medical Assisting or Certified Nurse Assisting and High School diploma or GED required.
Certification:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (healthcare provider), required.
  • Medical Assistant I: C.N.A. or MA certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Medical Assistant II and III: Current MA or C.N.A. certification, required. Current Phlebotomy certification, preferred.
