Our expertise spans a wide array of automotive testing facilities, including climatic and driveability wind tunnels, aerodynamic, acoustic, and thermodynamic wind tunnels, emissions testing rooms, soak rooms, altitude chambers, engine and powertrain test cells, and electromagnetic anechoic chambers. We not only design and construct these facility systems but also manage, maintain, and operate them.

Jacobs is seeking an Emissions Test Technician. This is an ENTRY-level position. We will provide training for candidates with some automotive experience and a strong desire to learn.

Key Responsibilities:

Participate in the testing of complete vehicles on chassis rolls and conduct evaporative emission assessments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Installing vehicles on chassis rolls and checking instrumentation.
  • Calibrating test systems instrumentation.
  • Operating site computers and managing emission test sites.
  • Driving both manual and automatic vehicles to accurately follow video road speed traces during various emission test cycles.
  • Validating and analyzing data.

This is a full-time position. It is NOT a contract role. You will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, dental and vision coverage, generous paid time off, paid holidays, a 401K plan, stock purchase options, and tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission is essential.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An Associate's degree in Automotive Technology or two years of college coursework in automotive engineering or related fields, along with two years of relevant experience is desired.
  • Prior experience with emission vehicle chassis rolls is advantageous.

This position includes a $750 signing bonus.

Essential Functions:

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting: Up to 50 lbs, 25% of the time.
  • Climbing: Not applicable.
  • Crawling: Not applicable.
  • Special clothing/equipment: Safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes are required on-site.
  • Physical demands: Manual handling of Powered Material Handling Vehicle (PMHV) is required 75% of the time. Job involves sitting (75%), standing (50%), bending (25%), and stooping (25%).
  • Noise level: Audiograms are required for exposure over 85 dB.

Work Environment:

  • Work setting: 100% indoors.
  • Temperature conditions: Cold temperatures (20°F or warmer).
  • Hazardous conditions: Involves moving dynamometer rolls.
  • Travel requirements: Not applicable.

Equipment and Tools:

  • Office equipment: Computers, 25% of the time.
  • Vehicles and machinery: PMHV; ability to drive a manual transmission is necessary, 25% of the time.
  • Tools: Air-driven sockets and basic hand tools, 25% of the time.

Attendance Requirements:

  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 100% of the time.
  • Shift: Days from 7 am to 3:30 pm. Shift assignments may change, requiring flexibility in work hours. Overtime and weekend work may be necessary based on testing needs.
  • Regular attendance is critical.
  • Punctuality is essential.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Must pass PMHV physical examination. Pre-employment drug screening, health performance evaluation, and background checks are required.
  • Professional conduct is expected at all times when interacting with customers, management, and colleagues.
  • Clear and effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are necessary. Appropriate grooming and attire are required to ensure safety.
  • Maintain a positive work environment through professional behavior and communication. Reliable personal transportation to the work site is essential.
